- 'I could see the men and boys falling'
Nedzad Advic, who is in the UK with the charity 'Remembering Srebrenica', recounted his experience during the Srebrenica massacre. Mr. Advic was shot multiple times and his father, who was with him at the time, was later confirmed to have been killed.
Immediately before the shootings, Advic said,' I hid behind others. I wanted to live a few seconds more'. After he was shot in the stomach, right arm and foot, Mr. Advic said, 'I wanted to die, but I didn't dare call the soldiers to kill me. My pain was unbearable.'
Mr. Advic said that there is not enough awareness of the massacre. 'Young people do not learn about Srebenica. This is a shame to Europe.'
He also said that remembrance remains politicised.
'Every day you hear Serb politicians deny the genocide. With this denial they feed a new generation with hatred.
